It was Christmas morning of 1988. I remember it like it was yesterday, although it was 36 years ago. I woke up happy and with great anticipation that Santa had stopped by and left me my very own Nintendo Entertainment System. Walking into the living room and looking over at the Christmas tree that was overflowing with gifts and presents, I spotted the gray and black box and jumped for joy! Little did I know that from the moment I open the box and start playing, that my love for gaming would last well into adulthood.
My most memorable Nintendo Entertainment System games are:
I would play these games so much that I had to do the “magic trick” to get them to play properly (which involved blowing really hard inside the cartridge before inserting it into the console) LOL! Real old school gamers know the trick.
The next gaming console that I added to my collection is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Even though my friends were going on and on about the Sega Genesis, I remained loyal to the Nintendo brand and never purchased one.
My favorite games from this console are:
My next Nintendo console to add to the collection would be the Nintendo 64. By this time, I was a seasoned gamer and was super excited to play games on this new, innovative system with the “weird” controller.
My favorite games from this console are:
In the fall of 2000, I retired the Nintendo franchise and ventured over to the world of PlayStation. I never owned a PlayStation 1, so my first PlayStation console was the PS2. This was my introduction to CD games. Being used to cartridges and their more durable nature, adjusting to CD gameplay was necessary. Nevertheless, I was fortunate to encounter my all time favorite game… Final Fantasy X. I was exposed to a gaming experience like none I have ever experienced. The story line, the music, the graphics, the attention to detail… everything just did it for me. I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours I spent playing this game… definitely well over 450. I fell in love with the Final Fantasy franchise.
Other PlayStation 2 games that I enjoyed are:
With the release of the PlayStation 3 in 2006, I remember being excited to finally experience gaming in full HD resolution, to play Blu-ray disc, and to access the internet via Wi-Fi and experience online game play via the PlayStation Network. The hefty price tag didn’t detour me from adding this console to my collection. I was not disappointed.
My favorite games on the PS3 are:
There were rumors that the new PlayStation 4 was to be released around the end of 2013. Yup. I knew what my Christmas present would be that year. Research revealed that it would have more CPU and graphics capabilities, more RAM, a bigger hard drive, motion sensing camera, and the controller would have a touchpad. Of course I had to see for myself and it easily became the best gaming console I had ever owned to date.
My favorite PS4 games are:
I waited a few years before I finally purchased the most recent PlayStation console, the PlayStation 5, mainly because the PS4 is still a relevant gaming console. I did some research and the newer console does feature outstanding software, faster load times, better graphics, and the feature that won me over, haptics feedback and adaptive triggers that provide, in my opinion, a more realistic gaming experience. Also, it is backwards compatible, so it can play all of my PS4 games. Did I mention that the controller is OTHERWORLDLY good. The Elder Scrolls Online currently has me in a choke hold.
