Every year husbae does something above and beyond for our birthday, and of course, this year was not an exception. He planned a spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway to one of our favorite cities, Manhattan, for the two of us to see our first Ballet, and to see a Broadway show. I mean, when in Manhattan, you have to see a Broadway show, right?! Happy Birthday to ME indeed!
It goes without saying that we had an absolutely amazing time! There were no hitches what-so-ever… from plane accommodations, hotel accommodations, or transportation. Everything was absolutely perfect. I could not have asked for a better birthday weekend.
After getting settled into our room at the Belvedere Hotel, located just a few blocks from Times Square, we headed out to get tickets for a Sunday matinee showing of Some Like It Hot.
We had to stand in line for about 20 minutes at the ticket booth in Times Square, which was totally worth it. We were able to secure tickets to the show with amazing seating for HALF PRICE. I don’t think we will ever pay full price for Broadway tickets anymore! It is absolutely worth the wait in line.
After wandering the streets and grabbing a few slices of world famous New York pizza, we cleaned up pretty nicely (if I do say so myself) and headed over to The MET Opera House at Lincoln Center to enjoy “Like Water for Chocolate”.
Completely random moment… Look at this Chandelier! Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your life!!
Anyway, we were absolutely blown away by this masterful performance! It literally left me with my mouth open! The music… the choreography… OMG everything worked together effortlessly and seamlessly to deliver an absolutely amazing experience that I will remember for a lifetime! It is the last scene where the PASSION exceeds all that is EARTHLY that did it for me!!! It left me speechless and breathless. It’s an absolute must see!
The next day we started the day with an amazing brunch at Juniors on 45th street. Let me tell you… the food is absolutely delicious, and the portions are HUGE!! I think we have definitely found our new breakfast/lunch spot whenever we are in NYC for a Broadway show. No pictures this time… Half the food was gone before I remembered to take a snapshot. You definitely must give them a try though, if you are looking for good food, good portions and good price!
Then after more roaming the streets a little more, we made it over to the theater to see Some Like It Hot.
Here we are standing in the long line prior to entering the building. The wait was not that long, and we did manage to beat the rain luckily. But let me tell you, when I say that this show DELIVERED EVERYTHING… It did! I was enthralled from beginning to ending! This show gives you comedy, spectacular singing, other-worldly dancing, and although it takes place a while ago, everything is still relevant today! I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching this show! It is an absolute must see! We knew after watching the Tony Awards, that this would be our next show to see. We chose right!
After the show, we headed down to the Village to enjoy dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Sevilla. There is just one word that can describe the authentic Spanish paella… and that is absolutely delicious. Ok, that was two words, but it deserves both! I can’t get enough of the mouth-watering flavor of the seafood, chicken & sausage generously laid amongst some of the most delicious rice that I have ever tasted. It is a TREAT! I guarantee you will love it as much as we do. The service, the cozy atmosphere, the absolutely delicious food is a MUST try.
