First, I would just like to thank The Most High for His grace, mercy, and many blessings that He has provided for me and mine through the previous years and will continue to provide into this new year! I am still breathing, still with great health, friends and loved ones are blessed, and I am still thriving and flourishing! Thank you Father!
It is usually at this time of year that we see the many different posts about resolutions, changing yourself for the better, and what you are going to do this year that is different from the previous year.
First and foremost, I am not trying to find a new me. I am happy and in love with the ME that I am right now and I do not want to change anything about Me. I do, however, want to make a conscious habit of doing more random acts of kindness throughout the year. Small, genuine, kind gestures really do brighten a person’s day believe it or not. Kind gestures are truly the gift that keeps on giving. A single act of kindness can be the ripple that causes a tidal wave of good to saturate the world around us. I have composed a condensed list of the MANY random acts of kindness that I personally am going to do to spread joy and bring a smile to someone’s face.
Slow down so someone can merge in front of me in traffic
Give an unexpected compliment
Buy a warm meal for someone in need
Help someone struggling to carry their groceries to the car
Say something encouraging to a parent who is struggling with unruly kids in a restaurant or grocery store
Donate flowers to a nursing home
Buy a Starbucks gift card and hand it to someone as I walk out of the coffee shop
Pay for the lunch of the person behind me in the drive thru line
Take the time to write a great review for a purchase or restaurant
Add a few more dollars to the tip
Donate my gently used clothes to charity
Volunteer at the local food bank
Patronize more small businesses on Etsy
Bring a dozen doughnuts and leave them in the breakroom at my job
Stay late for a co-worker who needs to leave
Invite friends and co-workers over for the holidays to my home to celebrate (especially if they can’t spend time with their loved ones)
Continue to be on time for my loved ones
Call my mom and dad randomly and tell them I love them
be a listening, non-judgmental ear to someone who needs to get something off their chest
With the new year also comes the realization that time does not wait for anyone. Life goes by so fast and the flame can be extinguished within the blink of an eye, …and this year, I want to remember to live in the moment, to not over-think certain situations, and continue to appreciate what I have. I am definitely going to make a positive effort to spend more time with and to love on the people that matter the most in my life and appreciate them.
If I can offer a few jewels of advice for you at the start of this new year, I would love for you to pursue your dreams, stop procrastinating, don’t wait until tomorrow to do something that you can do today. Seize the moment to do something you have always wanted to do. Make plans and manifest them into existence. And above all else, find love… never lose sight of it, and keep it in your heart!
